Sex Offender Arrested

06/25/2021

On June 23rd, 2021, Investigators Mike Tramell and Gene Atwell were following up on a lead on an investigation when they encountered 37 year old Scott Johnson from Boone County, who is a level 2 sex offender.  Johnson was parked on Old Cricket Road near the lake in a vehicle that he had not registered with the Sheriff's Office as required by Arkansas State Law.  Johnson also had his 18 year old step-daughter in the vehicle with him.  Johnson stated that they were fishing but investigators launched a separate investigation to the actual reason Johnson was there and it is suspected that Johnson may have had sexual interaction with his step daughter.

During that investigation, Investigators were also able to locate property in Johnson's possession that included fishing tackle, rods and reels that were valued in excess of $1,000.00.  The stolen property was positively identified by the owner, whose case was connected to a recovered stolen truck and boat out of Stone County, Missouri.  Additional property related to that case was recovered from Johnson's residence.

Johnson is being charged for failure to comply with sex offender registration requirements and felony theft by receiving.  Additional, charges are currently being investigated in relationship to the step-daughter.  Johnson is currently being held on a $25,000 cash only bond.
