Criminal Investigations Division

Captain Bob King
Captain Bob King

Captain Bob King, a 35 year veteran with this department, commands the Boone County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division (CID). Capt. King is responsible for supervision of the investigators within the division with a staff Sergeant overseeing daily activities.

The division is currently staffed with six major case criminal investigators who have primary case assignments that are broken down into property crimes, sex offenders and narcotics.  Although investigators have primary case assignments they are not limited to just those types of cases.

CID investigators work closely with patrol deputies, other law enforcement agencies and Boone County citizens to investigate crimes. In the event that you should need law enforcement you should call 911 or this department directly. The responding officer will evaluate the situation and determine if an investigator is needed.

The success of an investigation relies heavily on the detailed collection of physical evidence and personal interviews conducted in the field and at the office. The new Sheriff’s office facility boasts state of the art, sound proofed interview rooms.

Investigators are constantly in training in the field of criminal investigations.  Initial training involves a six month school certifying the investigator in basic crimes scene processing, enabling the investigators to receive certification as crime scene technicians.  Other schooling focuses on arson investigation, cyber-crime investigation, and interpersonal crimes.

The Sex Offender and Interpersonal Crimes Unit of the Boone County Sheriff’s Office investigate rapes, sexual assaults and domestic batteries and abuse.  This unit is responsible for registering and maintaining files of convicted sex offenders who live in the unincorporated areas of the county. Photographs, addresses and a brief description of the crime involved are located in the “Sex Offenders” portion of this website.  Please read the Disclaimer that outlines the law that allows for this information to be released and the possible consequences of harassment of registered sex offenders.

CID staff also includes a CID Clerk who maintains files, is responsible for NIBRS reporting, is the person responsible for accident and incident reports requested by the public and assists in maintaining Sex Offender registrations.

Any concerns about a specific offender can be addressed to the CID division at 870-429-0985 or by e-mail at cidadmin@boonesheriff.com.
