Villines Search & Rescue Update

PRESS RELEASE

DECEMBER 13, 2018

On December 12 local officials from Boone County and Harrison agencies met at the Boone County Incident Command Center at 400 E Prospect in regards to the search for John and Amy Villines.

After discussion it was a unanimous decision that the Incident Command would cease and the search would be scaled back.

The decision was made based on several factors, some of those being the fact that the creek has been searched from the Lake Harrison to the Pyatt area with little results. This area has been searched by boat and kayak and also by air. Much of the creek has been searched by volunteers walking along the creek bank. The Arkansas Game and Fish has had divers search areas of interest with no results. Debris piles have been searched with canine teams which are certified in search and recovery efforts. Debris piles have also been searched by hand by many volunteers.

Harrison agencies have also searched those areas inside the city limits including Lake Harrison with Arkansas Game and Fish boats, dive teams, and other volunteers. Canine recovery teams were used as well as many people walking the lake as the water level has fallen.

The rain forecast for Thursday and Friday is also a factor as the rainfall will limit the number of volunteers available and also complicate the search and its effectiveness.

However, the search will continue although in a scaled back form. Harrison agencies will continue to search Lake Harrison and county officials will continue to search the areas of the creek downstream from the lake.

Any person with information concerning this search or volunteers who wish to help in the continued effort are encouraged to contact the Boone County Office of Emergency Management located at 400 E. Prospect or call the OEM office at 870-365-0797.
