Sweet potato time! Roger Johnson, Boone County Sheriff Office Transport/Maintenance Officer took three 309 State Inmates with him to Cross County this week for the harvest.
We are allowed to pick up sweet potatoes out of the field at Wynne, Arkansas, and bring them back to serve in the jail for inmate meals. Our only cost is the fuel for the trip and overnight accommodations for the officer. Cross County Sheriff’s Office/Jail houses the 309 inmates for the overnight trip.
This year Ben Eddings Auto Group donated the use of a 2015 GMC 4 door ¾ ton pickup and Jeff Davis donated the use of a 5000 lb. electric lift dual axle trailer.
This year they brought back a little over 5640 lbs. of sweet potatoes, a record for us! These will be used in meals for inmates here at the jail.
We want to thank Cross County Sheriff Office, Ben Eddings Auto Group and Jeff Davis for making this a money saving enterprise for our jail.
