Junior Law Enforcement Academy Success!

Sheriff Mike Moore and Lt. Dennis Lea said the Junior Law Enforcement Academy was a success!  The five day class was completed on June 19 with 10 area high school students attending.

The program was deemed very successful by instructors and students due to the overwhelming enjoyment of both.

Students were provided law enforcement instruction by Boone County Sheriff’s Office personnel, starting with the Sheriff and ending with a tour of the jail.  Students received instruction and then were allowed to ask questions of all employees to gain more knowledge about the jobs here and what responsibilities go with those jobs.

U.S. Army SSgt. Guadagnini started each day with PT training and also contributed classroom instruction.  Students also received lessons from Arkansas Game and Fish Officer Wade Grayson. Other studies were arson investigations, criminal investigations, traffic law, financial responsibilities of the Sheriff’s office, law enforcement techniques and general Arkansas law. All in all the students received a well-rounded curriculum from many different areas of law enforcement.

We have included comments from some of the students who attended this class below.  It is the Sheriff’s Office hope that next year’s Academy will be bigger and better and ask all high school age students to be looking forward to and planning on attending next year.

“The best part about this was that I really got to do some things with my hands like the handcuffing or the investigation stuff.  I also really enjoyed the prison tour and the SWAT stuff” - MASON

“I really enjoyed seeing and meeting all the officers because I got to know them and what their job is.” – CALEB

“I like the PT because I like to be challenged.” – RON

“I enjoyed the SOG (Special Operations Group) van because we got to see and hold the equipment.” – COLBY

“I really like the class because I learned more about police officers than I already                  knew.” – ETHAN

“The thing I liked most was when we went to the jail and learned about the jailers and what they do.” – MICHAEL
