Sheriff Danny Hickman reports that Boone County Sheriffs Department was notified at approximately 2PM Monday, March 8 that what appeared to be a persons body had been found in Crooked Creek. The individual that found the body reported that they had been floating the creek in the area of Silver Valley Road when they came across what appeared to be the remains of a person face down in the creek. Investigators responded to the location finding that the remains appeared to be that of an elderly female.
Officers have not yet been able to confirm the identity of the remains but have indications that they may belong to Bessie G. Maize, a 70 year old woman who was reported missing to the Harrison Police Department. Maize was known to frequently wander from her home and had not been seen by family members since 02/25/2010. At this time the cause of the death is undetermined and the body is being sent to the State Medical Examiners Office for an autopsy and positive identification.
