Sheriff Mike Moore reports that during the early morning hours on Monday (10/21) the mother of a 13 year old female juvenile discovered that her daughter was not in her bed. The mother immediately reported the girl missing to her local law enforcement which was Lead Hill Police Chief Kenny Barnes. The girl who was currently on probation in Boone County had been known to runaway before. It was suspected that she was with a 13 year old male juvenile that was also reported missing to the Marion County Sheriff’s Department.
Officers with the agencies involved along with family members searched for the two in a number of vacant properties in the area but were unsuccessful in locating them.
On Wednesday (10/23) night the Boone County Sheriff’s Department was called regarding a suspected break-in at a remote property known as the Elixir Lodge on Tar Kiln Road. The house cleaner found a door that was locked inside the home and suspected that someone might still be inside. Officers discovered that the two missing juveniles there that had unlawfully entered the residence and attempted to flee when the officer announced their presence.
Both were found to be in relatively good health upon their apprehension. They were both transported to a juvenile detention facility where they will be held to face charges relating to the cases.
