On Monday, October 14th the Boone County Sheriff’s Office was busy following up on leads in a death investigation. Sheriff Mike Moore said deputies responded to Crunkleton Road on Sunday afternoon after receiving a report about what was believed to be human remains in a ditch. Moore said Investigators with his department were working with the Newton County Sheriff’s Office and the Arkansas State Police to identify the remains and determine the manner and cause of death.
Sheriff Moore reports that the remains appear to be those of a white male and investigators believed they have established a probable identity. Initial investigation and the condition of the remains indicated the unidentified man had died a few days prior to being discovered. The remains are being sent to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for an autopsy and for positive identification.
Although Sheriff Moore said it was undetermined if foul play was involved, he noted the investigation was being handled as though it were a crime until investigators could establish otherwise.
