Sheriff Danny Hickman reports that on Sunday, October 16th, 2011, at approximately 9:00 pm, the Boone County Sheriff’s Office received a call from Audra McElrea, 73 years of age from Harrison, and told dispatch her husband had shot a person who was trying to break into their home. When officer’s arrived on scene, they located Lance Milam, 33 years old of Harrison, on the sidewalk with a gun shot wound to his right arm.
Investigators arrived on scene and determined that Milam had attempted to enter a window of the residence. As Milam was doing so, Donald McElrea, 77 years of age from Harrison, opened his front door with a .22 caliber handgun in his hand. Milam ran from McElrea falling off of a 20 foot deck landing on the ground. McElrea told Milam to stay on the ground as his wife called 911. Before officers arrived, Milam got up, ran around the house, back to the front porch and charged McElrea. McElrea, who was in fear for his life, shot three times at Milam striking him once in the arm. This wound was not life threatening and Milam was transported to the North Arkansas Regional Medical Center for treatment. NARMC later made the decision to air lift him to St. John’s in Springfield Missouri.
Located near the driveway of McElrea’s residence, was Milam’s vehicle with another male occupant inside. This male was taken into custody for investigative purposes and being held at the Boone County Jail. Stolen property from McElrea’s shop building was located inside Milam’s vehicle. Milam will be charged with Residential Burglary and Theft of Property. No other charges have been filed as of yet and the investigation is still on going.
