Sheriff Danny Hickman announced the recovery of a vehicle stolen from the Depot Restaurant on Saturday, July 23, 2011. The vehicle was reported stolen about 4:00 p.m.
Deputy Craig Loggins was enroute to take the report and was informed of a two vehicle collision in Searcy County that involved a vehicle like the one reported stolen. The investigation revealed it was the same vehicle and the driver had been identified as Zachary McCormack, 22 years old, from Alaska. The collision in Searcy County was reported to be head on, but no one was seriously injured.
McCormack tried to flee the scene, but was chased down by the occupants of the other vehicle, who were police officers from Springfield, Missouri. McCormack was held at the Searcy County Sheriff’s Office on charges including DWI with accident; Sheriff Hickman said felony charges of theft would be filed in Boone County and McCormack would be transferred to the Boone County Jail.
