The Boone County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a homeless man whose body was found on the morning of September 16th. Sheriff Danny Hickman said the man was identified as Robert Horton, Jr, age 49. His body was found near a warehouse at a business near the Bellefonte community. Investigators discovered Horton had been travelling with another homeless man and sent a request to nearby agencies to help locate him. The second homeless man, later identified as Carl Pederson, age 49, was located at the Tourist Information Center north of Harrison. Pederson was taken to the Sheriff’s Office for questioning while investigators searched the area where he was located. That search resulted in the discovery of evidence linking Pederson to Horton’s death. Sheriff Hickman said the arrest of Pederson was a result of good investigative work, help from citizens in the county, assistance from the Arkansas State Police and a little bit of good luck. Mr. Pederson was charged with 1st degree murder with a bond set at $250,000.
